In south asian region fairness has always been linked with beauty, especially when it comes to analyzing beauty in girls. But, this fairness discussion might just add fuel to the fire when beauty is sought in “skin-deep” terms. Nevertheless, beauty hasn’t always successfully been described as only skin-deep. So, people want to look good and try their best to look good . This is no new fact, the up-soaring sales of beauty products , luxury items and the ever changing fashion statement says it all. These days almost all beauty products’ and even toilet-soaps’ advertisement claim instant fairness. And if anything promises what you are after desperately, what do you do ? Simple, isn’t it. Go buy that thing. This is how smart companies have been out-smarting people. What is even more smarter of these companies is that they have flaw-less models and beauties selling their products. These companies pay huge amount for a minute of their lies and replinish their own stock fom each dime of these common believers.Fairness products now even scale fairness, like your weight you can specify your fairness ,not in kg though but in some degree. Watch tv for an hour and you will lose count of how many things showed up there promishing fairness just in days. They have a variety of people to offer their service, not a single one is missed out : men, women, children, teens, dry skin, rough skin, sensitive skin, dark skin, blah blah blah…What on earth is this ?This , i reckon, is completely against consumer laws, what cant be given shouldn’t promished in the name of publicity.
According to science, fairness is a factor controlled by the genes in our body like intelligence height and rest. Skin color is multiple gene or polygenic inheritance which means the variation is continuous over a wide range . This means two people having same color tan is very less likely ( this is accounted to environmental factor too in addition to inheritance ) .Second comes environment in determining the skin colour of individual. According to the weather condition, the amount of radiation we are exposed to,the moisture our skin can retain plus other conditional factors, skin color is specific to an individual. And using any other artificial tool to change your skin color is not only harmful but also against laws of nature. The skin color provides protection to the body cells more than it does enhance or deteriorate your beauty. When out on sun, your skin poduces more melanin to protect the skin from harmful uv radiations which on the other hand darkens the skin. This is the natural law. Being fair is no big accomplishment. And these flamboyant ads are encouraging fairness-complex in society. I strongly detest these ads and am against the fairness-complex they intend to promote.
